It is mainly used for running online transaction processing (OLTP), data warehousing (OLAP), and mixed database workloads. It has market-leading database technologies. PostgreSQL commonly known as Postgres is an open-source database. It has over 30 years of active development along with a strong reputation for reliability, feature robustness, and performance. PostgreSQL has various forks like EDB, Redshift, AWS Aurora, Netezza, etc. Thousands of databases are getting migrated to PostgreSQL from Oracle in recent days. While the number of PostgreSQL deployments and databases is increasing significantly, it is also attracting existing Oracle DBAs to learn PostgreSQL as their primary or secondary skills.
