Title: Succeeding with Oracle Database in Azure IaaS
Presenter: Timothy Gorman
Organization: Bridgeton Data, Inc

Summary: There are many misconceptions in the Oracle community about Microsoft Azure cloud. Some think everything in Azure runs on Windows, and only Microsoft software is there. Certainly, many people at Microsoft seem unaware of Oracle's predominance in the database community.

Azure is a massive cloud with IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions, and Azure supports everything, including Oracle database, and supports it very well. More than two-thirds of the VMs in Azure are running Linux, after all.

With my background focusing on Oracle database administration and optimization over the past 33 years, I have spent the past 4 years at Microsoft enabling Azure customers to migrate and deploy their on-prem Oracle database workloads within Azure. This presentation is an overview of the many choices customers have in Azure for their mission-critical applications.

The lessons of this presentation include an overview of Azure compute, storage, backup, high-availability, and disaster-resiliency solutions, as well as the most effective way to design and estimate costs for your Oracle-based application within Azure.
